Curriculum at Risen Christ

Risen Christ School's mission is in part to develop the spiritual, academic, social, physical and personal integrity in each student and to nurture the civic and church leaders of tomorrow.

Our curriculum, based on the McCrel standards rather than state-based measures, helps our students to develop the knowledge base they will need to be successful whatever they decide to do. The curriculum is designed to be challenging, yet attainable with the support of a professional staff. It is routinely reviewed and revised according to the latest research.

Research has shown that students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process and taught to monitor their own progress. We believe that the learning process depends on three elements: students who take responsibility for their education; parents who are the first teachers, primary role models and supporters of the educational process; and teachers, administrators and support staff who guide the students in their learning activities. Our curriculum invites the participation of all three key roles.

Risen Christ Catholic School's mission also requires us to "value and protect the cultural diversity and uniqueness of each person in our community." The curriculum is chosen to represent many viewpoints and traditions. Diverse teaching methods are also employed to address every student's needs. Presenting curriculum based on a student's preferred learning style increases the child's success. Respect for one another as learner is a critical part of the learning environment.

In addition to the core subject areas, we provide instruction in music, Spanish, physical education, technology and library skills. Surrounding and supporting our academic curriculum is our social and behavioral skills curriculum, Discipline with Purpose.
